Pocket-Style Hanging Basket - Crochet Pattern

Notes

- The step up chains do not count as stitches in this pattern.
- When working in the round, the pattern states to "join with sl st." This means to join in the first hdc in the round.
- On the next round, when the next stitch(es) are worked into the first stitch, that is the same stitch that you slipped stitch into to join.
- The finished basket is turned inside out so that the "wrong side" is what is displayed. Keep that in mind if you make any modifications.

- Yarn - 1 skein of Bernat Home Dec (I used the Aqua colorway)
- J 6.00 mm Crochet Hook
- Measuring Tape
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle

Instructions

BASE

Ch 16
Round 1 : Working in top loop only - In 2nd ch from hook, 3 hdc; 1 hdc in next sts except the last; 3 hdc in last st; 3 hdc in bottom loop of same st. Continue working in bottom loops of previously worked sts, 1 hdc in next sts except last; 3 hdc in last st (this stitch already has 3 sts in it); join with sl st. {38}
Round 2: Ch 1; 2 hdc in 1st st; 1 hdc in next 17 sts; 2 hdc in next 2 sts; 1 hdc in next 17 sts; 2 hdc in last st; join with sl st. {42}
Round 3: Ch 1; 1 hdc in each st around; join with sl st. {42}
Round 4: Ch 1; 1 hdc in 1st st and next 2 sts; 2 hdc in next st; 1 hdc in next 16 sts; 2 hdc in next st; 1 hdc in remaining sts; join with sl st. {44}
Round 5: Ch 1; 1 hdc in each st; join with sl st. {44}
Round 6: Ch 1; 1 hdc in 1st st and next 5 sts; 1 hdc in next 15 sts; 2 hdc in next st; 1 hdc in remaining sts; join with sl st. {46}
Round 7: Ch 1; 1 hdc in each st; join with sl st. {46}
Round 8: Ch 1; 1 hdc in 1st st and next 8 sts; 2 hdc in next st; 1 hdc in next 14 sts; 1 hdc in remaining sts; join with sl st. {48}
Rounds 9 - 17: Ch 1; 1 hdc in each st; join with sl st. {48}

HANDLE

Lay piece flat with back seam facing you. If you think the opening will not be centered, sl st over sts as needed to move opening.

Round 18: Ch 1; 1 hdc in 1st st and in all but the last 3 sts; ch 7; join with sl st in 1st hdc. {45 plus chain space}
Round 19; Ch 1; 1 hdc in 1st st and remaining sts; 7 hdc in ch sp; join with sl st to 1st hdc. {52}

Bind off and weave in ends on current side showing.

Turn inside out.
